Without a doubt the horrible murder of 20 innocent children and 7 adults in Newtown, CT on Friday is beyond words to adequately describe.  Even as a Christian who believes that evil exists and is rampant on our planet I find it hard to understand how someone could commit such an act.  My heart and my prayers go out to the victims and their families.  I cannot imagine the pain the parents who lost their babies yesterday are feeling.

As expected, the Left wasted no time in politicizing this terrible act for their own purposes.  The Anti-Liberty Left is already making an all out push for stricter gun laws that harm us all in the wake of one man’s unspeakable crime.  But as is always the case with Liberals, they are too simple minded to recognize the truth of what happened and resort to mob tactics and fear to push an agenda that would otherwise never be accepted by the masses.

Here are the facts.

  • The murderer used a gun, actually several guns, to kill 27 people
  • The guns, as reported by multiple news outlets, belonged to his mother who was one of his victims
  • The guns, whether obtained legally or illegally by his mother, were stolen from his mother
  • Stricter gun laws would NOT have kept this evil man from committing killing a single one of his victims because:
    A. He stole the guns
    B. We already have laws against killing people and they didn’t stop him

The Liberals are already pressuring the White House to take immediate action on gun control.

I submit to you that stricter gun laws are exactly the wrong answer.  By definition criminals don’t obey the law so making new laws won’t keep criminals from getting guns.  What it does do is make it more difficult for law abiding citizens to obtain guns for their own safety against the criminals who couldn’t care less about the law.

The link above includes this quote:

“Powerful lobbying groups allow the ownership of guns to reach beyond the Constitution’s intended purpose of the right to bear arms,” the petition states. “Therefore, Congress must act on what is stated law, and face the reality that access to firearms reaches beyond what the Second Amendment intends to achieve.”

The founding fathers included the right to keep and bear arms in the Constitution because they recognized that the people needed to be able to defend themselves again not just an oppressive government, but also those within society who would ignore its laws and seek to harm its citizens.

2nd Amendment

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

The fact of the matter is that those cities and states that have adopted stricter gun laws have higher crime.  New York City, Chicago and Washington, D.C. have some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country and they also have some of the highest crime rates. Meanwhile, states that have adopted conceal and carry laws and even open carry have some of the lowest crime rates.

Coincidence? Hardly. It’s just common sense. Once again, criminals by definition aren’t concerned with the law and at their core they are cowards. No law is going to stop someone hell bent on murder from at least attempting to kill someone.  No gun law would have kept Adam Lanza from stealing his mother’s guns, breaking into the secured school and killing innocent people.

Furthermore, there are plenty of murders carried out without guns.  The Oklahoma City bombing, The Guyana tragedy in Jonestown, 911, Casey Anthony and  many other unbelievable crimes didn’t include a single gun.  And then there’s this story from China where citizens are not allow to possess any firearms. http://www.courant.com/sns-rt-us-china-stabbingsbre8bd065-20121213,0,5592318.story

The Left’s obsession with wanting stricter gun laws has less to do with saving lives than it does with controlling those who disagree with its agenda.

For me, I purchased my first gun this past year and I fully intend to buy more. I’m sorry that I waited this long to own a firearm and wonder if I’m too far behind the 8 ball to fully catch up to where I want to be.  At 45 I believe the political climate in our nation and the absolute stupidity of what appears to be a majority of the country means I may live to see the day when the government doesn’t just pass laws saying we can’t own certain types of guns or guns of any type, but where they physically come after those who already have them.

I hate to be cliche but If and when that days comes, it will be from my cold, dead hand that they take it.  That may seem extreme or even stupid to many but I know where I’ll go when I die and I would much rather go there riddled with bullets than to stay alive here under the oppression of those who would seek to enslave us.
