In 1994 President Clinton signed into law that he would be the last President to receive secret service protection for the duration of his life post presidency.  I said at the time that this was one of the most stupid things our government could do. I believe our government wastes more money than it spends wisely but when it comes to the protection of our presidents, past and present, no expense should be spared.

In case it’s not clear, I HATE Obama. He is without question not only the worst president our nation has ever had, but obviously hates the United States and it’s citizens.

Having said that, when his second term is completed and he is finally no longer in office it is our obligation as a nation to ensure he receives secret service protection for the rest of his life. Regardless of what I think of him or any other president, the fact is that he held the office and is a part of our history.

Were a former president of the United States to be assassinated it would be a national tragedy. It would be an incredible blow to our national psyche and would send the message that we are so week we can’t even protect our former presidents.

Obama on January 10th, 2013 signed into law H.R. 6620, the Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012, granting lifetime Secret Service protection to all former presidents, their wives (unless they remarry), and their children under the age of 16.

Finally, there is something Obama has done that I can say I agree with 100%.  It took just under four years.  I’m guessing the next time this happens is when he finally steps down after his second term.  Four more years to wait for that to happen… assuming it does.
